Room-temperature mid-IR Quantum Cascade Lasers

Since their first demonstration, quantum cascade lasers (QCLs) were of great interest for many applications including free space telecommunication, spectroscopy for medicine and atmospheric sensing. External cavity quantum cascade lasers (EC-QCLs) are very convenient to realize a versatile, compact and low-cost widely tunable mid-infrared laser source.

Our research is focused on the development of broadly-tunable, room-temperature mid-IR Quantum Cascade lasers (3.2µm-3.3µm) for the use in compact spectroscopic gas sensing systems, free space communication, atmospheric sensing, environmental monitoring and detection of dangerous substances (like CO, N2O, HCL, CH2O, CH4).
Our group has demonstrated continuous wavelength tuning of 85 nm between 3190 nm and 3275 nm from a room-temperature external cavity InAs/AlSb Quantum Cascade Laser.
